The path of Least Resistance
What’s going to transpire, will.
No matter what.
Whether you like it or not, want it or not.
When you just surrender yourself to the Universe, and let it guide you through the various tides of life - that's what I call the path of least resistance.
That doesn't mean we stop working, or stop putting in efforts.
But, we stop planning things.
Or even better, we stop getting attached to our goals, or the results of our efforts.
We live life one day at a time - from today to tomorrow.
We stop planning long term, and just focus on the next day.
The commonest reason we experience friction in our minds is - when things don’t go as per our plan.
Or even worse, when we don’t get what we want.
That brings me to my next thought - what’s wrong in expecting results when I’ve worked hard for it?
Nothing wrong, provided I don’t do what I do for the results.
For eg., If I'm studying for the results, I'll be diappointed if I don't score as much as I've aimed.
But if I study to be consistently better at my job, I very well understand that those numbers don't define me or my path or purpose in life.
But at the same time, this shouldn’t make us laid back or lazy.
That's basic human nature - pleasure seeking.
And it's simply because most of us are addicted to the dopamine rush borne out of success.
We want to run after success for the happiness it gives us, not for what it gives us in the long run.
Ironically, here we are technically running after the short-term dopamine boost, and probably forgetting about the long-term.
In my opinion, when we do things because we like doing them, remaining indifferent to the results comes very naturally.
That's because you're already getting the dopamine high while you're doing your favourite job, so you don't expect that from the results.
Practically, it's not always possible to be doing only what you love.
Life is tough. It forces many loathing tasks across your way.
At such a time, learning to love the process comes to the aid.
There's no fixed destination in life.
It's the path, the journey that matters.
And hence, just let things be, just let life be.
Be determined, be focused, be ambitious; but, be flexible.
If not this, then well, that.
That's life! It's unpredictable!
